Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire of the Court of Appeal (L)
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Uganda Chapter last week held its inaugural International Arbitration Conference at Mestil Hotel and Residences. The landmark event brought together leading arbitration practitioners, jurists, academics, and commercial sector actors for two days of dialogue on the evolving landscape of dispute resolution in Africa culminated into the Awards Gala Friday.
The conference focused on the future of dispute resolution on the continent, featuring expert insights, panel discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions on the emerging trends shaping arbitration and ADR practice. Delegates examined Africa's growing influence in global arbitration, institutional strengthening, and the role of ADR in promoting timely, cost-effective, and business-friendly justice systems.
The Awards Gala on Friday night served as the climax of the two-day conference, celebrating excellence and leadership within the ADR fraternity.
One of the highlight of the evening was the recognition of Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire of the Court of Appeal, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK (FCIArb), who received the distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was honoured "in recognition of your outstanding and lasting contribution to the advancement of ADR in Uganda."
The accolade reflects Justice Kiryabwire's pioneering role in his judicial and scholarly contributions, and his long-standing service in shaping Uganda’s modern dispute-resolution framework.
